Smoke (Old Punjar)

A rat’s nest of tenements, ruins, and shacks, this is home to Punjar’s desperate. Most of Smoke’s citizenry, who dress in castoff rags (at worst) or patchwork clothing (at best), go their entire life without leaving the ward. They commonly bear scars from the pox, and the ravages of malnutrition or poor diet ensure that most are missing teeth or worse.

The architecture of the ward is characterized by the age of the buildings – antique stone gargoyles and heavy walls, covered by centuries of grime and soot, date back to the founding of the city. There are also tall, crumbing warehouses and asylums, the latter built in a failed experiment to house the poor. Burnt out buildings don’t get cleared away, merely occupied by squatters, and shacks and tents spring up overnight, making navigation frustrating at best and deadly at worst.

The ward is ruled by petty thieves and extortioners who claim territory and style themselves as bosses.
