Great Black Swamp

The Great Black Swamp is a salt marsh of tall, grassy reeds and boggy hollows, home to deadly monsters of every sort. Merchants and ferrymen cannot be persuaded to cross the marsh. Those looking to be ferried into the swamp must deal with the curious folk that inhabit a shantytown just outside the Salt Marsh Gate. The swamp folk demand sacifices of blood, burned over open flames, to appease their gods before venturing into the swamp. Regardless of their dubious theology, the sacrifices must appease something, or else the swamp folk would have been devoured by any of the swamp’s deadly beasts decades ago. Yet while the swamp folk are seemingly protected from the predations of the swamp’s deadliest creatures, they were not immune to the unnatural ravages of the Dark Plague.
